Polo Facility - Virginia International Polo Club

The WSPL is excited to announce that VIPolo in Upperville Virginia will be the host venue for the 2009 season.  The WSPL is an opportunity for those women with riding skills wishing to experience the sport of polo with a group of women of similar interests. 

Consider the WSPL as a girl’s night out or bring the family and friends to share in the fun and excitement.

WHEN:  The league will play weekly June - September on Friday starting at 6:00 pm.  Each event will be followed with a potluck tailgate dinner. 

WHERE: Games at the VIPolo Arena followed by a tailgate at the arena pavilion or club pavilion (located at the barn).

HOW: VIPolo will lease tacked polo ponies to league members, provide access to a polo arena where activities will occur and also include a Professional Polo Player / Umpire for the games. 

FEES: membership is free; $75 per session for tacked up horse - "Pay As You Go" - NO season commitment required.

Never thought of playing polo?  No problem, as long as you can ride a horse and are willing to learn you can play polo. The WSPL is a women’s league focused on safety, fun, exercise, horses, polo and comaraderie.

FAQ

1) I have never played polo is experience a requirement to join the league? No. The WSPL is a self-managed instructional league that requires enthusiasm and the willingness to have fun and learn to play polo.

2) Will the league play on grass or arena fields? The WSPL will play in an enclosed roofless arena that is 320 ft long by 165 ft wide. The arena consists of a goal at each end and is surrounded by a solid 4-foot wooden oval wall.

3) How many players on a team? Arena polo is played with 3 players on a team.

4) Is the league open to the public? No, the WSPL is by invitation only and is hosted on private property.

5) What is the league membership fee? League membership is free. Expenses should be planned to lease a tacked polo horse from the VI Polo Club; $75.00 / session.

6) Must I join for the season or can I just give it a try? The WSPL provides women an opportunity to experience the sport of polo and encourages members to try out the thrill and excitement of playing the game. You may play per session.

7) What other equipment do I need besides a helmet and riding boots? VI Polo will provide polo mallets and balls to league members for use. Since teams are assigned prior to the game each member should bring a Red , White and Blue shirt. 

8) Will joining the WSPL include membership to the VI Polo Club? No. The WSPL is not directly affiliated with the VI Polo club. As a WSPL member you will have the opportunity to meet many high goal professional polo players and can arrange for private polo or riding lessons at club prices.

9) Can I bring my own horse? Polo ponies undergo extensive training and are trained to be in close contact with other horses with players swinging mallets. For safety reasons all horse questions should be addressed to the VI Polo Club Manager.

10) Can I change clothes at the barn? Yes, the polo barn is equipped with a restroom and dressing area. Members should strive to be ready on-time for each event.

11) Is the potluck tailgate provided by WSPL? No. The tailgate is provided as a bring a dish or something to share with other attendees. The tailgate will vary with a mix of salads, wine and cheese to meat cooked on a grill at the pavilion. Everyone is expected to bring something and everyone is welcome to attend.
